All references that I could locate, state that four proof speciments are known of 1893-CC $1. Twelve were struck. Once in a while one appears at an auction and is sold at $30,000+.
As far as the regular issue of 1893-CC $1 is concerned, occasionally, counterfeit coins are encountered on the market. The method used is to glue or solder a CC mint mark into position on an 1893-P dollar. The counterfeiter either has a lot of confidence in his ability, or has a lot of money, or both. The coin being used as a base costs several thousand dollars itself.

Randy,
I just read the part in rusty's book that you are referred me to.
Fascinating! Here to in yet another CC rarity that equals the 1913 libery head nickel in terms of rarity and surpasses it in authenticity!
Carsonite....Have you personally viewed one of these 1893-CC Morgan proofs or perhaps one of the other dates that you mention in your book which are touted as potential proofs by NGC?
thx...Belay Off

Belay,
I have seen four or five of the 1893-CC branch mint Proof Morgan silver dollars.
I sold one example.
Three years ago, though, I missed an opportunity to sell the finest-known specimen: a PCGS PR-67. I could not hammer out a deal with the seller. This is one of those "big ones that got away" stories. In hindsight, I wish I had been more aggressive. Below are images of the obverse and reverse of this special coin:
Below is an image of an eye-appealing PCGS PR-64 1893-CC Proof Morgan dollar that sold in Heritage's 2006 January FUN sale. The price realized was $92,000.
These are definitely coins about which to dream.
Regards,
Rusty
