At 6:00 p.m. on August 9, 2012, Stack’s Bowers Galleries began one of the most anticipated auction sessions ever—the sale of the Battle Born Collection of Carson City coins. The collection consisted of one example of each of the 111 different dates and denominations produced at the Carson City Mint, and it was only the second complete collection ever assembled. For more about the set and its compilation and history, please read the Reno Gazette Journal’s article, ‘Battle Born:’ Rare Carson Mint coins going to auction on Philadelphia stage.

The C4OA Discussion Board’s Carson City Coin of the Week – 111-Week Project debuted in September 2009. Each week a group of dedicated C4OA “COWboys” (as they’ve been known to call themselves) profiles one of the 111 different date-and-denomination combinations available in a complete set of Carson City coins. Each coin’s profile is complete with a descriptive article, comments from fellow members, and even images.
The Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG) honored Curry’s Chronicle with its 2010 Best Issue in Small Publications for Clubs category. The NLG bestowed this same award on our popular journal in 2007 and 2008. Last year (2009), Curry’s Chronicle received NLG’s Extraordinary Merit award in this category. The American Numismatic Association (ANA) awarded our journal with Third Place honors in its Specialty Numismatic Publication category. Curry’s snagged this same honor from the ANA in 2008. These awards give us much cause for pride, especially since our club is only five and a half years old.
