1878-CC GSA Flat Pack was created by Wags
Hi everybody,

I'm relatively new to the club, but I have been a CC collector for a few years.

I recently picked up an 1878-CC GSA flat pack which is supposedly a "circulated" coin. Judge for yourself, but this doesn't look very circulated to me. I have attached the obverse photo here, and I will put the reverse in a reply. One of the reasons I picked this one up in the first place was due to the beautiful toning on the reverse. Let me know what you think.

Mike,

Actually your coin is very special, as the Article Rusty points out will likely describe. GSA workers tossed out as "Not Uncirculated"
many otherwise awesome coins because of the toning. I own an 1882 CC GSA conservatively graded MS 66. Like your '78, my '82 (pic attached) is toned on the reverse though about way less dramatically.

Just for drill....The PCGS grading bible says that AU 55-58 Morgans will show slight friction on the hair below LIBERTY, the hair above the ear and above the cheek. The reverse is sometimes easier to spot with AU-scale wear found on the wing tips, eagle's breast, legs, head and its claws.
You might not always be able to spot some of the wear in these "tell" areas with the naked eye but they can't hide from a 5x loop.

Thanks for the post...

Wags, welcome! It looks to me that the right C mintmark is touching the wreath? Is that true? Very nice. And very nice color.

Yes, the right C is touching. I had not noticed that before. Pretty cool.
