Randy,

I started the Big Bonanza but couldn't get through it. I guess I'm not a fan of 19th century literary style (Mark Twain seems to be an exception). Based on your recommendation, I'll give it another try.

Buy the book first! In many instanses I did, however it is always tempting to get the coin first. Buying on emotions and not on the knowledge is so much easier. I just must have this coin, now.

Below are listed the books that I use for the study and characterization of Carson City Mint coins and related subjects. The books are not listed in any particular order.

Show us the books that you are using for the study of Carson City Mint coins and related subjects.

This book has beautiful color images of all U.S. gold coins. In a single volume is up-to date information about auction records, coin history, mintage, etc. It should be a part of every numismatic library.

The Numismatist, April, 2010 on page 22 mentions book by Howard Hickson "Mint Mark: "CC" - The Story of the United States Mint at Carson City". The Nevada State Museum still sells this well-illustrated book for just $8 plus shipping. This book was first published in 1972.

Thr article also mentions Rusty Goe's 2003 book "The Mint on Carson Street".

Another great resource is member Bill Bugert's " A Register Of Liberty Seated Half Dollar Varieties Volume II Carson City Branch Mint. This book is an absolute must for collectors of the Carson City Half Dollar denomination. I use it to help with the "COW"boy project.
