The 1875 CC Half Dollar

Mintage- 1,008,000 / Survival estimates in all grades- 1,500 -3,000

Price estimates- G-$35, VG-$50, F-$70,VF-$120, EF-$240, AU-$350, UNC.-$900+

The 1875 issue saw a drastic increase in production over the previous years from mint start up in 1870 to 1874. In fact, the total mintage of the 1875 exceeds the total output of half dollars for the five previous years of 1870-1874.

At least nine obverse dies and six reverse dies were used in the production of the 1875-CC Half Dollar.

I beleive that the CC half dollar series is a bit of a sleeper series. With gold coins and Morgan dollars getting the spotlight, the half dollar slips under the radar. The 1875 is one of three years—the 1876 & 77 being the others—with production of over 1,000,000 coins, and many examples in various grades are very affordable. Even lower grades of the rarer dates of 1870-1874 and 1878 are not astronomically priced out of reach.

Personal buying tip: Buy as many as you can.

I have seen some half dollars at Southgate, for example, in lower grades that are nice looking and very reasonable. I will have to check the budget.. :) I dont have any Liberty Seated coins at the moment and the design is quite nice. Especially in mint state, as is the one pictured here.

Nice coin there Randy, I agree with you 100%. I also believe that the Seated Halves from Carson City are under valued and are ripe for picking ( if you can find nice problem free coins ) and that is a task itself. Good luck with your searching. Go CC'S

1875-CC Half dollar on eBay.

This is the best that eBay has to offer. Holed one is called PQ
at $150 and Good one goes for $45.

The holed one has a note: "This holed example is poised for upward value movement". Hurry!

I would not judge the quality of coin buying by the standards of examples on ebay.

I'm pretty sure John was be facecious...but nonetheless, that's the kind of well founded numismatic assessment one should expect on EBay as you say...

It might be fun to see if someone actually buys the darn thing!
