You did a good job presenting your information in separated sections. This outline-format suits your writing style well—it is syncopated and rhythmical, if you know what I mean: just like the beats of a drummer.

Of course, I always enjoy seeing references to James Crawford. He was truly an unsung hero from the Carson City Mint era.

By the way, compared to most other 1877-CC half eagles I have seen in this grade range, your example is very high end. The hairlines are more prominent in the image you posted than they are in person.

Keep up the good work. In the end, you will have profiled your entire set of "CC" $5 gold pieces.

Thank you Carsonite for you words of praise. You are always very generous in your encouragement of writers such as myself who are not pros. It makes me feel good about the posts that I do. We COW posters all have different styles of writing...that's one of the very things I appreciate about our COW postings. You have played a major role in helping me cultivate my own style. I still have a long way to go and much to learn. With your continued help and guidance, things can only get better.

I always make mention of James Crawford and agree with you that he was in fact an "unsung hero." I am convinced that had he not been the superintendent of the Carson mint that the facility would have ceased production long before it did. James played such a crucial role in the history of the that fabled coin facility and the State of Nevada itself. He is most worthy of any recognition of his accomplishments.

I also agree with you concerning my 1877-CC half eagle. It is definitely high end for its grade and was actually a bargain for what I paid for it! The photo is very revealing (maybe overly so) in showing those hairlines mentioned in my post. Those negative coin characteristics are actually very difficult to detect in person.

I look forward to completing my COW posts of the entire set of $5 half eagles from the Mint on Carson Street and I'm happy to know that you appreciate my writing style.
