Across the auction block..... was created by mitchell
As a long time observer (and occasional participant in) of the GSA market, I have been stunned to see a mini-series of high grade GSAs CC Morgans cross the auction block in the last 3 months. The verdict, fresh from last night, shows a thriving market for these gems:
1880CC NGC MS66 Stacks/Bowers Baltimore Sale #3901 $3,250
1881CC NGC MS67 Heritage FUN Sale #1512 $11,000
1882CC NGC MS67 Stacks/Bowers Baltimore Sale #3909 $13,00
1884CC NGC MS67 Stacks/Bowers Baltimore Sale #3927 $12,000
1884CC NGC MS67 Stacks/Bowers Baltimore Sale #3926 $13,000
1885CC NGC MS67 Stacks/BowersBaltimore Sale #3940 $30,000
1885CC NGC MS65* Stacks/Bowers Baltimore Sale #3942 $8,250
NOTE: all reported prices do not include the 15% buyers fee
What is also surprising to this observer is that the market has seen TWO 1885CCs GSAs graded MS67 sell within the last month. The first one sold at ebay for the buy-it-now price of $30,000 as well.
Also, there is a 1883CC GSA NGC MS67 that is currently listed on ebay with a buy-it-now price.
I'll edit this list to include populations later.

I spoke at the Boston "Bay State Show" with Debbie Wilkes from the Stacks/Bowers staff and she said that these GSA come from a prominent collector that wished to remain anonymous. From what she said this collection of GSA's was huge and very high grade. Mitchell form what you described it looks like she wasn't kidding. I will check out your links.

I wonder if it was GSAGUY from the Coin Universe forum. I can't recall his name at the moment [Brian Sonnier?]. He sold a large collection of GSA Carson City dollars last year.
It is hard to believe that MS66 and MS67 coins could have come out of the GSA sale. Just sayin'

Garryn:
Not sure what you're saying.
I think it's fair to say that most of the high grade CC Morgans have come from the GSA sales. Take a look at the PCGS/NGC census and you'll find a number of 66 and 67 grades in both PCGS, NGC and GSA holders. Most of the high grade PCGS/NGC coins came from coins that were broken out of GSA holders.
