Top Posters C4OA Discussion Board - As of 1-10-2011

From time to time, we like to give credit to the active participants on this Discussion Board Forum. As of January 10, 2011 members have posted 330 new messages to which there have been almost 1,800 replies.

We have a long way to go before we reach the 1,000-post and 10,000-reply levels. I hope this Web site will stay active long enough to reach these pivotal milestones.

You can see from the chart below, the discussion board is dominated by a small percentage of the club's membership. If the number of particpants—those who post messages and leave replies—were to double, the activity on this discussion board would accelerate into a higher gear. An increase beyond the 20-participant mark would really turbo-charge this forum.

Without a doubt one of the nicest aspects of the C4OA web site's discussion board is the level playing field. Coin collectors of every level participate and share everything from easily accessed data to golden tidbits of wisdom gained over decades of experience.

Garryn's most recent Coin of the Week posting and Carsonite's reply are prime examples of two individuals with extraordinary numismatic experience.

I joined the club as a novice collector and have benefited hugely from the knowledge and advice generously given by the discussion board members. If the discussion board had not been such a friendly place for a beginner to enter, I would not have participated as I have.

Belay Off

I enjoy all the posts. It is amazing what you can learn from members experiences and this is a great place to share those experiences with all that are interested in the Mint on Carson Street. I have gained so much knowledge from Belay Off, Garryn, Mitchell, The Drummer, Litas and, Randysc and if I forgot anyone, my apologies. The COW project is one of my favorites and I am proud to contribute to that forum. I know when I sign on there are guests listed and I am sure that they would like to share some of their stories of this great mint. So to all of you I say "Come on in, the water is fine"

Loosechange

There are many professional munismatists who have written articles and books on the many facets of Carson City coinage. Numismatists that have written historical based catalog descriptions that in a few sentences can entice someone to bid serious money on a desirable coin, currency, token or medal.

This is the first instance I know of where a discussion board has been devoted to a compendium of information on the fruits of one mint's labors. Also the first instance that one mint's production has been analyzed date by date, denomination by denomination, by mintage, quality, historical background, effects on economy, and effects on human interaction. Not by professionals, but by a number of individuals, some of whom have never met, some of whom have no connection with Nevada. And yet we have turned out all this knowledge. Then others respond and add more facts, more photos, more questions. We have solved mysteries, answered old questions and asked new questions. It is quite remarkable. I am in awe of everyone who participates here and in the Chronicle. I am also grateful to everyone who just takes the time to visit, read and enjoy. We need them too.

I'm glad I made it barely under the wire.

This website does have the potential to soar but until more people step up and put in their two cents, we're going to be flying low and slow.

My two cents: don't be shy - the group is friendly. There's still much to learn and share out there.
